As many of you have noticed the construction of our new Sailing Center at the NW portion of our property on Sunrise Bay is well underway but unfortunately will not be complete by the date, we had set for Foundation Day on February 11. The Sailing Center was to be an important part of the Foundation Day events and rather than work around it the Board has decided to postpone Foundation Day until we have a firm completion date for the Sailing Center. We will keep you posted on our progress.
I hope that some of you participated in our Boating Safety Class which took place on January 21. The Foundation will continue to offer instructional and safety-oriented events such as CPR, Swimming, Sailing for Adults, Scuba and others throughout the year in addition to our summer sailing program for beginners. We are also in the process of obtaining boats that are suitable for more advanced sailors and adults and families.
I would like to remind you that we and all other sailing programs are looking for certified instructors. As previously mentioned, if one of our members, someone you know, including college students, would like to become certified the Foundation will pay for the online and in person courses necessary for the certification. This may be of particular interest to a student to satisfy their requirements for community service in addition to the fact that it is a paid position. We anticipate we will have four three week courses this summer and again, we are working with the city of Ft. Lauderdale, Lauderdale Yacht Club and a local school. As always, scholarships will be available to those who qualify.
The Party with a Purpose is your Foundation’s major fund-raising event each year and the date is approaching quickly. The event will be on Saturday evening, March 25, 2023 and will be the same elegant evening as it has been in the past with only a few changes that we think you will like. This year we will have live music and dancing in addition to the Gourmet Dinner with White Glove Service and complimentary wine and cocktail service. Our very popular silent auction will be even better this year. We will have information at the event outlining some of our accomplishments and plans as well as introducing you to participants in last year’s sailing program. We are eliminating speakers in favor of music, dancing and an evening to remember.
Last year and in years past we limited reservations to 60 guests and are increasing that number this year to 100. As I wrote this article on January 13, we already have almost 50 reservations. You will be receiving a formal invitation in the mail in addition to more information from the club. Please remember that we are a 501 C (3) Charitable Foundation, and your donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.
Your lifetime donations, including the diner event are credited to your name plate on the TEAM FOUNDATION plaque that will be displayed at the entrance to the Clubhouse. If you wish to make your donation and reservation now you can make your check out to CRYC SAILING AND WATER SPORTS FOUNDATION and mail it or bring it to the Accounting office. Please make sure it is to the attention of the CRYC Sailing and Water Sports Foundation.
We did send an email out to all members with a number of donation packages that are available but if you have any questions you can give me a call anytime or our Treasurer, Roz Alford at 404-580-0387 or email: alfordroz@gmail.com
We look forward to a great event this year and thank you very much for your support.
