CRYC Sailing and Watersports Foundation

The Coral Ridge Yacht Club Sailing & Watersports Foundation is dedicated to investing in the future of sailing and watersports for children and adults of all ages. The Foundation’s goal is to introduce, promote and encourage the sports of sailing, power boating, yachting, scuba diving and other watersports by providing access to the water, vessels and related activities for all participants. The Foundation sponsored educational and recreational programs will promote the social interaction of the participants, while increasing their awareness, proficiency, seamanship and safety while boating, sailing and scuba diving.

First, I would like to apologize to Larry and Barbara Bohannon for not recognizing them as one of the major contributors to the Party with a Purpose.  Larry was one of the founders of the Foundation and Larry and Barbara have been major supporters over the years.

Our joint effort to develop a sailing program with the City of Ft Lauderdale and Lauderdale Yacht Club has run into some difficulties.  Our 12 boats were delivered in June as expected and we were all set to move forward only to find that the coaches that were scheduled to instruct were no longer available.  We explored all possibilities to get new instructors or have an independent sailing school get involved, but it seems everyone is having the same problem. As we know this has been a common problem these days. We are optimistic that we can have the program in place next summer.

The good news is that we plan to move forward with the program for CRYC from August 1-12, under the direction of Gov. Kevin Cassell, and Foundation Board Member Rich Barnhart.  They will have a qualified instructor running the program.  I believe we will be looking for a club member to participate as a safety person running the chase boat.  The program will be limited to 8 participants.  I am told that we already have 7 reservations.  You can find details on the Foundation Website. CRYCFoundation.org

The Foundation continues to work with the club in improving the NW portion of our waterfront to improve the area for sailing and water sports activities and in keeping with the club’s plans to improve the north side of our property.

DID YOU KNOW that you can contribute to the Foundation at no cost to you through Amazon Prime.  It’s really easy and it does not cost you anything.  After you enroll you simply log into smile.amazon.com.  Your purchases are at no additional cost to you and Amazon donates to your chosen charity.  To enroll, sign into Amazon with your password and follow the prompts.  It will ask for your charity which would be CORAL RIDGE YACHT CLUB SAILING AND WATER SPORTS FOUNDATION INC.  If you already have a charity and would like to donate to the Foundation there is a change provision.

As always, on behalf of the Board we thank you for your continued support.
