I am delighted to see the reaction to the Sailing Program that we ran the first two weeks of August, not only from our members, but also from folks around the Bay who have commented how nice it was to see the kids out there learning and sailing. It was a great experience, and we will build on it for next years expanded program. We will also work to provide supervised sailing for the kids over the winter months on the weekends and school holidays. Special thanks go out to the Foundation Board for their support as well as Donna, Henry, Rich Barnhart and special thanks to Kevin Cassell who spent a lot of time getting the boats and logistics in order. As you all know, we were working in concert with the city of Ft Lauderdale and Lauderdale Yacht Club for an expanded program. The city did purchase additional boats and equipment for the program but unfortunately were unable to get qualified instructors for this year’s program. We will be participating in the program next year and expect that we will be able to get qualified instructors to monitor the program.
Dates for Foundation upcoming events have now been scheduled as follows:
EPICUREAN DINNER. This dinner was auctioned at the Party with a Purpose last year and has been an annual tradition. The donation is $1000.00 per couple. For those of you who would like to contribute, this is a great opportunity to attend the dinner as well. It has been a great success every year. THE DATE FOR THE EPICUREAN DINNER IS THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 2022. If you would like to attend, please let me know or make a reservation through the club. For those of you who attend, your donation will be credited to your new or existing Brick Society account.
FOUNDATION DAY. This event will be a poolside event with activities for kids and adults alike. A buffet lunch will be served in the Wheel room and dining will be in the Wheel room or on the Auxiliary Patio. It will be an opportunity for new and old members alike to learn more about the Foundation, our good work and future plans. THE DATE FOR FOUNDATION DAY IS SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 11TH, 2023.
PARTY WITH A PURPOSE. This is our major annual fund-raising event with a slightly different twist this year. Response was so good last year that we have decided to hold the event in the main dining room and in addition to the white glove upscale dinner, complimentary beverage service, and silent auction, we will have live music and dancing. THE EVENT HAS BEEN SCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY NIGHT, MARCH 25, 2023.
After much deliberation it would appear that the Foundation will erect a plaque with Board approval in place of the Bricks. It will be prominently displayed on the wall to the right of the main clubhouse entrance. The existing bricks will be available to those who donated them. We will send out an email to everyone as soon as all the details are in place. We will upgrade the plaque with additions and changes in donation level each year. For those of you who do not have a brick and would like one or upgrade your existing brick, please contact me or any of the Foundation Board Members. Again, your $1000.00 donation for a brick will also entitle you to two guests at the Party with a Purpose on March 23rd.
