Foundation Log – February 2025

When I joined CRYC in 1999 there were over 600 members and very little talk about giving back
to the Community, developing a youth sailing program, or even a successful Cruisers program.
Over the early 2000’s and with the hard work of some dedicated members, Cruisers became
very successful and has continued to grow and enjoy that success to this day, but there was still
a lot of resistance to building a good Youth Program and becoming a more respected member
of the Community.

In 2014 a group of eight of us decided to form what is known today as the CRYC SAILING AND
WATER SPORTS FOUNDATION. Our mission was to preserve the use of Sunrise Bay and develop
a quality sailing program for the benefit of the Community and our Club. We have been
successful in doing so over the years and expanded our programs over the years. Our
partnership with the City of Ft. Lauderdale, LYC Sailing Foundation and St Marks school have
not only allowed us to expand our goals but has also made us an important part of the
Community and an asset to CRYC.

We have been able to achieve our goals only with the support of our donors, mostly club
members, by supporting our fund-raising events and donations.
As you probably know by now, our major fund-raising event is the Party with a Purpose which
will be held at the club on March 29 th . It is an elegant evening, but more importantly it is an
opportunity to support your Foundation. You should have received your invitation in the mail
by now and you can respond by mail in the enclosed envelope, through the Club’s reservation
system or through me or any of our Board Members. We are a 501 C3 Charitable Foundation
and your donation is tax deductible to the full extent of the law. If you are unable to attend the
event your donation would be much appreciated in any amount.

We look forward to your support. Donations can be made by check made payable to the
Foundation and sent to the club addressed to the Foundation or though Zelle at
