The success of our fund-raising efforts and your support has allowed your foundation to move forward on some very exciting projects. Currently we are working with the city of Fort Lauderdale and Lauderdale Yacht Club on the summer sailing program for the year 2022. The city has provided major funding for this effort and we are supporting the effort financially and by providing scholarships, coaching, lunches and equipment, as is Lauderdale Yacht Club. The city has ordered 12 new boats and delivery is expected in early June. They are also providing a passenger van to provide transportation to the participants. This year the program will take place at Lauderdale Yacht Club primarily due to the construction anticipated at CRYC and the fact that we will be working to improve our sailing facilities on the northwest corner of our property. This effort will be in keeping with our mission statement as well as providing sailing instruction and opportunity to our members. Our sailing center plans are being headed up by Rich Barnhart and Kevin Cassell. With that improved area we will be able to host two of the four sessions at our site next year.
Each of the two-week sessions will be from 9:00am to 4:00pm and will include transportation and lunch for each participant. The dates will be June 20-July 1, July 25-July 15, July 18-July 29, and August 1-August 12.
The last session will be limited to CRYC unless each of the 12 slots are not filled in which case the program will back fill them. I would encourage you to reserve your place asap. The first of the three programs will be made available primarily to scholarship recipients, all of which must go through an approval process. The cost of the two-week program is $476.00 unless the participant qualifies for a partial or full scholarship. If those dates are not filled by scholarship participants, they will be available to CRYC and LYC kids as well.
Our new website is now up and running at crycfoundation.org. Many thanks to Rich Barnhart who will be updating it on a regular basis and keeping you informed how we are progressing with our projects and future plans. Check it out and if you have anything you would like included or have any suggestions, please contact Rich Barnhart or any of the foundation board members.
I am pleased to report that our brick society continues to grow, and we currently have over 80 bricks including many that have been upgraded each year. We continue to work with management and the board to determine a new location for the bricks that will complement our new look.
As i mentioned in my last log article, the party with a purpose was a great success and thanks to Roz Alford and Starr Fisher who co-chaired the event. I would also like to thank those very generous sponsors who went over and above to make the event financially successful. They include: Roger and Karen Comstock, Rob and Audrey Hunter, Ed and Amy O’Rourke, PC Bob Epstein, Starr Fisher, Secretary Roz Alford, Paul Erickson, VC Maynard and Andrea Hellman, David and Jan Sanborn, Gil and Terry Bieger, PC Richard and Floria Scheff, Wagle-Chipaikatty Foundation, Sharon Cyktor, Andrew and Lynn Denka, RC Fred and Marybeth Roche, Gil and Terry Beiger, Commodore Chip Starkey and Ray Zglobicki.
Our recent efforts have been focused on the sailing program, but we are moving forward on plans to improve our sailing activities area and hopefully to make the bay north of the club less congested and better suited for sailing and recreation. Keep in mind that our kayaks, paddleboards, sailboats and water toys are available for your use at no cost. You can make arrangements with our dockmaster.
Don’t forget to make your reservations for the sailing program. Space will be on a first come first serve basis.
On behalf of the foundation board, thank you for your continued support.
